Modern times have seen the amazing development of technology. Radio, television, and the telephone keep on improving in features and function that make for an easy and convenient modern life. Other than this, economic pursuits are immensely aided as needed information is made available anytime, anywhere. Today, no business person or corporate executive ignores the readily available global information as the world has become one big global village.

One of the most important technological advancements available to businesses today is the World Wide Web. From research to logistics, the World Wide Web can greatly assist any entity or organization. Not exploiting the benefits of the Web would often mean extinction of an organization. It is no wonder then that businesses invest in web presence.

Most people would surely ask, “How did the World Wide Web come about? How did it evolve?” Below is a brief history.

In August 1991 a person by the name of Tim Berners-Lee combined Internet communication with hypertext. Internet communication, at that time, had been around for quite a while as much as hypertext was. Internet was mainly email and Usenet, while hypertext was used for single-computer information browsing. Lee came up with a website using a markup language called HTML, giving the website the basic structure of headings and paragraphs, as well as linked pages with the use of hypertext. Being the first person to come up with such development, Lee has then been considered the inventor of the World Wide Web.

Developments since then include the use of images and tables for tabular information. Table-based layouts have then given way to Cascading Style Sheets or CSS. As of the present, newer design standards further dictate the evolution of the Web.
